Counteracting ghostwriting and guest authorship
The editorial board of the "Economic Annals of Kujawy and Pomorze University in Bydgoszcz" attaches particular importance to adherence to the principles of academic integrity and transparency regarding authorship. All instances of academic misconduct, in particular ghostwriting and guest authorship, are treated as serious breaches of publication ethics.
Ghostwriting is defined as a situation in which a person has made a significant contribution to the creation of a publication, but their involvement has not been disclosed as authorship or co-authorship, nor has it been appropriately acknowledged in the acknowledgements.
‘Guest authorship’ refers to the listing as an author or co-author of a person whose contribution to the preparation of the publication was negligible or non-existent.
In order to counteract such practices:
-
The editorial board requires authors to specify the individual contributions of all co-authors to the preparation of the publication, together with their affiliations.
-
The author submitting the manuscript is responsible for correctly identifying all co-authors and the extent of their involvement in the preparation of the article.
-
Authors are required to disclose the sources of funding for their research, the preparation of the publication, and any institutional or organisational support (financial disclosure).
-
In the event of ghostwriting, guest authorship or other instances of scientific misconduct, the Editorial Board will take action in accordance with the principles of publication ethics and COPE guidelines.
Information regarding authorship rules and requirements relating to the prevention of ghostwriting and guest authorship is set out in the guidelines for authors.
